The Power of Choice: Embracing Our Dignity

Updated: Nov 6, 2025

Understanding Adam's Choice

It was man's "yes" in the Garden. Adam's "always yes" kept the glory of God as his covering. He was naked, yet all he saw was Love. This Love is the Glory of God, which can now fill the hearts of His faithful ones. Adam didn't recognize his own nakedness or the potential of his vulnerability. After completing His creation, God saw that it was good. He rested in His works.

Adam was the touchpaper. Man, with the power to choose, kept choosing God at every turn—until he chose to distrust Him. When that happened, God's glory immediately departed from Adam and Eve. God's glory is blinding. Now we can only see in a mirror dimly. We must "take heaven by force," but we can only do that by resting and believing in His Mysterious Presence.

The Struggle for Submission

Force? Yes, we must learn to do violence to our rebelliousness until it is brought into glad and willing submission. Adam and Eve were literally clothed in Love, the pure Glory of God! This concept is profound. It reminds us that our choices have consequences, and our relationship with God hinges on our willingness to trust Him.

A Personal Reflection

This brings me to my rosary this morning. Actually, it was last night. I planned to join your space and then Micah's, but I felt led to have Her all to myself in that rosary. Drawn to the comfort of community, I wobbled in my dedication to "just me & Mary" in my prayer and hopped in and out of your space.

Last night, I learned that I am even more little than I have been previously shown. In fact, I am so small, so insignificant, that the definition of "me" became the teeny space in between the Ave Maria beads. That's where Karen fits in—a mere breath, if that.

But He has given me such great dignity that I am worth dying for. My dignity is no greater than a baby who can only breathe, yet it is no less than the resident in my exam room yesterday, who is going into pediatric neurology, or any other person marked by great intellect or achievement. This realization is comforting to me this morning.

The Promise of Peace

Exodus XIV:14

Douay-Rheims: The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.

Vulgate: Dominus pugnabit pro vobis, et vos tacebitis.

In this verse, we find a powerful reminder of God's promise. He fights for us, allowing us to rest in His peace. We need to embrace this truth. Our struggles, doubts, and fears can be laid at His feet.

Embracing Our Identity in Christ

Understanding our identity in Christ is crucial. We are not defined by our failures or our fears. Instead, we are defined by His love and sacrifice. This love gives us dignity. It empowers us to make choices that honor Him.

The Importance of Community

While personal prayer is vital, community also plays a significant role in our spiritual journey. Sharing our experiences and struggles with others can provide comfort and encouragement. We are not alone in our journey.

The Role of Prayer

Prayer is a powerful tool. It connects us to God and helps us navigate life's challenges. Whether through a rosary or personal reflection, prayer allows us to express our thoughts and feelings. It is a way to communicate with our Creator.

The Journey of Faith

Faith is a journey, not a destination. We will face ups and downs, but each step brings us closer to understanding God's love. Embrace the journey. Allow it to shape you into the person He created you to be.

Conclusion: Living in His Glory

In conclusion, we must remember the power of our choices. Like Adam, we have the ability to choose God. Let's strive to trust Him fully. Embrace your dignity and identity in Christ. Allow His glory to shine through you.

Let us hold on to the promise that the Lord will fight for us. In our moments of doubt, we can find peace in His presence. Together, let's journey forward, embracing the love and dignity that God has bestowed upon us.
